What I looked for with this GWT Book Review

I have been looking for books that are good for GWT Newbs that can get them up and running quickly.  There are articles and tutorials all over the internet that tell how to do individual things with GWT but not many that put it all together from beginning to end.  Essential GWT does a good job of doing just that.

How Essential GWT stacks up

This book does a good job of explaining all the basics and much of the intermediate concepts of the Google Web Toolkit: compiling, widgets, guis, Ui Binder, MVP, JSNI, JSON, RPC, i18n, and testing.  All of these topics are quite important to understand if you are going to put together a high quality web application.

Essential GWT also does a great job of giving best practices to make your application more effective and much faster.  Some of the topics they cover are very common mistakes that GWT Newbs (and veterans for that matter) make.  For each of the ‘Gotchas’ they give great examples of how to overcome them.

Overall, this is a great book to get up and running quickly and even more importantly, correctly.  If you are needing to learn quickly, you need to add this book to your shelf.
